Re: Question about gas

I flew a Europa XS with a Rotax 912 for 7 years. I flew over 500 hrs and I think I used 100LL in it less than 10 times. All other flights were done with premium auto fuel, more often than not with 10% ethanol….because that was what was available. I flew in temps from 10-115 degrees and never had an...

Re: Question about gas

There are at least two other things that could force things along. 1.) EPA ruling that bans lead in any fuels by a given date. 2.) There's only one manufacturer of TEL remaining in the world. When they stop making TEL, 100LL is gone. They are in UK, which typically has more stringent environmental r...

Re: Booster fuel pump question?

This is the response from Barry at The Airplane Factory USA, Torrance: Yes, there is a 3rd boost pump that ensures fuel pressure even if the other two pumps should fail. There were some fuel pump issues on the earlier Sling TSi however, the factory now provides updated fuel pumps in the Firewall Fo...

I hear that! I'm not overly concerned about it, but I seek out ethanol-free gas whenever possible.

Re: Question about gas

Well, I'm referencing https://generalaviationnews.com/2011/01/09/how-long-can-fuel-be-safely-stored/ Yeah, even that source implies 6 months is optimistic. For the storage life of fuel with ethanol, there is no good answer. Under ideal conditions , it should last six months. But if there is any moi...

I've always read the shelf life of mogas without ethanol is about 6 months. With ethanol is 3 months. Just what I've read, I'm no expert.

Re: Question about gas

Can our rotax 915is use 93 with ethanol ? If so what would the down side be ? anything more than the increased oil change interval that we already expect ? Yes, it can use unleaded mogas 91AKI or better with up to 10% ethanol. There is no increase oil change interval associated with unleaded mogas....

Re: Static Lines

I don't believe there's any such speed offset calibration in the G3X. If there is, I'd like to know where. The new forward static port location also requires these circular shields (which Sling Technical will provide), otherwise they're not accurate either. There was another TSi which had its static...

ibgarrett wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:03 am Wouldn't the final say for the fuel type fall to the engine manufacturers (lycoming/continental/Rotax)? I mean I get Textron might have a say in it, but not the final say.
Textron owns Lycoming.

Re: Question about gas

Well, GAMI got FAA approval for a 100-octane unleaded fuel. At this point it's only approved as an STC on a per airframe and powerplant basis. This doesn't get us anywhere near where we need to be, but it's a step in the right direction. https://www.avfuel.com/Fuel/Alternative-Fuels/Unleaded-Avgas h...
