Re: Prime?

I started off like Philip, using the home depot rattle can primer for my empennage. After more research, the prime/no prime debate is caused by almost all aircraft being constructed out of a different kind of aluminum. 2024 is what Vans and Cessna use, and is somewhat an industry standard for "...

Re: Known building "Gotchas"

-Rudder pedal pushrod bolts are in the finishing kit -The shorter ribs at the floor of the rear fuselage are switched in the manual, they should face opening inwards not outwards -Aileron stops are shown backwards -ADSB blade antenna goes in the small hole in the front/center fuselage skins. Be awar...

Re: Countersinking

Different materials countersink differently, but I have done all the countersinking with my hand drill set to the faster speed. The micro stop tool does a good job of keeping the countersinks round. Are you preparing to countersink your main spars or what? I was able to countersink my main spars, se...

Re: Mogas Locations

One more thing to add about using 100LL when Mogas isn’t available is to consider using a Fuel additive like Decalin to reduce the impact of the Lead since the Rotax engine really prefers running on Mogas. Some more discussion about Decalin on the Rotax-Owners forum - https://www.rotax-owner.com/en...

Re: Mogas Locations

My plan is to purchase a 40-80 gallon fuel tank with an electric pump. I'll throw it in the back of my truck and get gas from wherever has the right quality/price and can store it in my hangar. As for destination airports, Philip has the perfect answer, and the beauty of being able to use 100LL is i...

Re: Pilot Experience of Sling Builders

I got my PPL about 3 years ago and did my Instrument rating last year. Currently I have about 180 hours total time, mostly in Cessna 150 and 172. I am hoping to build up some time over the next year to work on the Commercial certificate (for which I need 250 hours in the US) and get my CFI to open ...

Pilot Experience of Sling Builders

Hey everyone, I've noticed a lot of people building say they are "low hours pilots." I am in the same boat, with just under 150 hours total, mostly in Archers and some 172 time. I'm just VFR PPL and will get IFR once my TSi is done. I guess I've tricked myself into thinking buying and buil...
