Considering TSi build Toronto

Post by DB11_2020 »

Hi guys, My name is Pete and I am seriously looking at building a Sling TSI.

Can someone give an honest assessment of the build time? Also, I note that the rivets are all pul type where the Vans RV10 are mostly solid, but I do not know how durable the pull type are compared to the solid? Is there anyone with a TSI around the GTA/Niagara area?

Cheers

Welcome :)

The pulled rivets used in the Sling are not standard pop rivets, they are rivets from a German company called Gesipa and have higher tensile strength than standard pop rivets. Many RVs are built for aerobatics, so they require even higher strength (and work effort) of solid rivets for that, but the Sling planes are not designed for aerobatics.

The advertised total build time for the slings appears pretty accurate, in large parts due to the ease of construction with pulled rivets.

Rivets/foot for Sling and 2 other aircraft

Post by hpmicrowave »

I made a picture of the construction differences between the Sling TSi, Vans RV8, and Cherokee PA28-180D to show numbers of rivets/foot and rivet sizes between the 3 AIrcraft, but this forum won't let me post it, any way here is the number of rivets/foot holding the wing skin to the main wing spar for these 3 planes. Send me a PM with e-mail and I send it to you.

1) Sling TSi has 16 rivets/foot (1/8" diam flush rivets)
2) RV8 has 15 rivets/foot (3/32" diam flush rivets)
3) Cherokee PA28-180 has 8 rivets/foot (1/8" diam dome rivets)

I think this clearly shows the Sling TSi is over built for the flight envelope its designed for.
