Dark colors allowed?

Does anyone know if there are any shades or darkness levels of paint that would not be allowed on the canopy and/or upper half of the aircraft? I commonly see white up top, and darker color below (N135WT), and didn't know if that was choice or to prevent overheating of the canopy.

There's no restriction on colors that I'm aware of.

You can paint your plane black if you want to, but yes, the reason why planes are usually painted bright/white is to keep the paint look nice longer (colors fade over time) and not heat up everything in the plane.

Not just the cabin heat, but also all the electrical wiring and plastics, which just really don't like heat to degrade them.

So basically it's really mostly a practical reason of why planes are mostly white on the top and using accents/color on the bottom instead.
