Fuel gauge sender circuitry

The original mounting plate for the fuel gauge sender has a ground lug as well as the positive terminal. When the sender is removed and remounted to the large kit supplied plate, the only provision for a ground return for the sender is through the sender mount which is ultimately riveted to the rib mounting plate. As You know this plate is insulated from the rib by a cork washer, not a good situation for conductivity.
Would it be wise to mount some sort of ground lug on the outside of the plate it self?
