Pitot Tube :: Garmin vs Dynon

Post by Stingy Pilot »

My understanding is that the wing is delivered with Garmin pitot mast. I am inclined to use Dynon for my avionics platform (oh boy.. here we go..) and I read that the Garmin pitot tube is not compatible with Dynon Skyview HDX. My biggest concern is installation as I go through the manual and see Garmin mast assembly and brackets. I could find Dynon mast ready to install for RVs but obviously not the Sling. The wings will be shipped end of June so need to make up my mind by then :)

Thoughts?

To simplify my question; I need to confirm whether a Dynon-specific mast would be an easy replacement for the Garmin-provided mast, unless these are compatible and I am wasting everyone's time.

You're in luck that this is one of the few standardized kind of parts.
If you go to Aircraft Spruce you'll find all sorts of masts (like this one https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... ackets.php) and they list that they support Garmin and Dynon, so I'm guessing that you'll be fine just installing a Dynon Pitot Tube in the Mast.

I know of at least one TSi that has installed Dynon - Matthew Harris - here's his build log with installing the Dynon Pitot tube on the Sling Pitot Mast - https://sling4tsibuilder.wordpress.com/ ... itot-tube/
