Reducing drag

Post by Striker »

To reduce drag, and increase speed,
How about,,,

Putting the comms,/VOR antennas in the wing tips ?

Removing the foot step up steps ?

What ya all think ?

Dunno about the antennas.

The old Bonanza had a retractable step (with the gear). My wife would object to removing the step for sure.

I guess it is a calculation of your personal aggravation "Return on Investment" to figure out something different.

I'll be curious what you come up with.

The drag of a few pounds added by the Antennas is very marginal at the cruise speed of the Sling.

You can find the drag numbers on the Rami website, but it's fairly low and really only becomes a factor for much faster cruise speeds.

I doubt hiding the Antennas will make any meaningful difference to the speed.

The RAMI AV-12 has a drag force of .92 lbs @ 250 mph. I don't know what the drag coefficient is (and too lazy to do the math), but since 160 mph is roughly 2/3 of 250 mph, the drag force for the max speed of a TSi is 0.4 lbs, so, minimal.
