Build Manuals

Post by permagray »

For the Build Manuals - (which have some deficiencies) - I have found that it is helpful to make a copy of the parts list that is at the beginning page of each sub-assembly. That way, when you are on a page in the build manual, you can quickly reference the Item number on the page to the actual part number from the parts list.

Good tip.
For me I put a post-it as a bookmark on that page so I can quickly get back to it for the same reason.

Hi.

In my profession there are what's know as 'Block' aircraft. Typically , 'Block 10, Block 20', etc. with differences/improvements listed as a matrix.

Could the TAF publish a similar 'Block' type of improvement so that a owner/builder can reference their S/N and determine what applicable build/equipment they have? The manuals seem behind the improvements. (but I appreciate the improvements!)

Also, has TAF considered a 'quick build' manual? I have to figure out where the TAF ends and my portion begins.

Thanks!

Hi MTJ

We do not have the same system as is required for certified aircraft.
Our separate kits are delivered against a revision number on the packing list.

The updated TSI manuals will indicate which parts are assembled by the factory and which ones by the kit builder for a quick build kit.
The packing lists shows the split for quick build aircraft and can be used as a reference in the mean time.

Yes a Quick Build Manual, or Quick Build Start point in each Build Manual would be VERY helpful! I just built a Vans RV8 and all of their manuals have a Quick Build Start point clearly defined.
