Re: 916 upgrade kit?

I’ll let the distributor for each part of the world comment on price to their customers individually. There are three main parts of the upgrade. There’s an engine mount that can handle the extra horsepower with the required safety margin. There is a new cowl that improves airflow to the intercooler....

Re: Rotax 916is Turbo

I think I can add some to this discussion. It is my first post as the sales manager of The Airplane Factory (U.S.) rather than as a builder (my QB TSi kit is still moving along in my garage). I am taking over for Barry, who left the company a month or so ago. I spoke with Rotax as well as the Sling ...

Re: New TSi Seats

With the Dzus connectors, how do they go into the seat back? The collar is too big for the hole by just a little bit. Do I drill out the hole for collar? Some magic combination of heating the hole and chilling the collar? A rubber mallet and some elbow grease? How does the collar stay in when the Dz...

Re: Known building "Gotchas" for the Sling TSi

Building the front seats: The drawing calls out using Ø3.2mmx8mm all around (except for the base brackets), but for the locking mechanism, you need to use 12mm long rivets in the front. The 8mm long ones don't quite go far enough past the plastic so it won't hold correctly. Sling includes (at least ...

Re: Known building "Gotchas" for the Sling TSi

You mean put a domed rivet into a dimpled hole? That sounds strange. I just dimpled the flaps last night and, since the holes were punched for the 3.2mm rivets already, I had to upside them to 4.0mm. I hope to rivet them today. I opted NOT to dimple the ailerons because I haven’t seen that clearance...

Re: Known building "Gotchas" for the Sling TSi

It does seem like they are suggesting to countersink and dimple to avoid the problem, but there are no c'snk rivets called out, so they are still not quite in sync with the countersink.

Re: Known building "Gotchas" for the Sling TSi

On Sheet 52 for the Ailerons and sheet 56 for the flaps, there are holes outlined that say to dimple. The parts lists for those components, however, do NOT call out countersunk rivets. I got an e-mail back from technical support in South Africa today that says “We have had a few cases in the past wh...

Re: Known building "Gotchas" for the Sling TSi

Question on the flaps and ailerons - Evan’s “How to” videos show using countersunk rivets for the back of the flaps and the current build manual also shows countersunk rivets for the ailerons. Are they actually supposed to be countersunk per directions, or not countersunk per the notes in this thread?

SlingTSI in Walnut Creek, CA

Hello all, I have a Sling TSI empennage that is either in the port of Los Angeles or will be there in the next few days. Then a week or so waiting to get unloaded, another week or so to move up the state to Walnut Creek (in the East Bay Area of San Francisco) where I am, and then I can get started a...
