Are you sure about this? https://www.flyrotax.com/products/915-is-a-isc-a still shows 1200h TBO for the 915.Stingy Pilot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 5:13 pm The recent 915 engines have increased overhaul time to 2,000 (although the early serial numbers are stuck at 1,200).

Re: 916 upgrade kit?
FYI, I was quoted EUR ~5000 for the upgrade kit here in Europe. Total upgrade cost from the 915/Airmaster combo to 916/MT about EUR 17,000, or an extra 30% (plus tax and shipping). That's pretty steep for 20 extra takeoff horsepower... (For non-europeans, 1 EUR is currently ~1.1 USD.)

Re: 916 upgrade kit?
Oh as opposed to a one-knob RPM-follows-throttle setup? That's OK, I'd prefer being able to control RPM anyway.BaldCaldwell wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 3:43 am I believe that when Edward refers to manually controlled prop, he is referring a constant speed prop with the prop controller in the cockpit. Think of the standard blue knob.

Re: 916 upgrade kit?
Thanks Edward. So you're saying the MT prop is manually variable pitch, not constant speed?
Are the changes to the cowling extensive? I wonder if it's feasible to patch the 915 cowling if one's not afraid of fiberglass work.

916 upgrade kit?
I saw on Sling's website that the current TSi kit has been adjusted to assume a 916 installation and there is a 916iS upgrade kit for builders with 915-style kits. Does anyone know anything about what's in this upgrade kit and how much it costs?

Re: Kit Insurance
Thread hijack! In any case the market for 6-seaters is tiny so I doubt it would be worth the investment.

Re: Documenting a build here?
I think suggesting the EAA system is missing the point. I was suggesting doing it here in Blog form to try to drive a little more traffic to this site and also for me to better connect to the Sling build community since I will be the only person building one anywhere near my location. However, I've...

Re: Building a Sling in Spain
Is there a EAA-affiliate chapter in Spain? It seems likely there's some organization for homebuilt aircraft, they're probably the best bet for questions about local regulations.

Re: flush riveting everything
It would be interesting to see how the flush riveted Slings are holding up after thousands of hours of service. I dunno about the Slings, but I used to own a Sonex, which also uses flush pull rivets on the leading edge. That design is almost 25 years old and I've never heard anyone talk about any i...
