Re: Sling HW Radio Silence ?
Whatever issues there were with the original HW fuselages must not be that bad. Linda Sollars' "first production high wing" is still flying per Flight Aware. Regardless, I'm glad Sling is willing to take serious action to ensure a quality product. I hope this doesn't cause a significant co...

Re: flush riveting everything
During an RV-15 Q&A session, Vans acknowledged they wont consider using the CS4-4 (flush, countersunk, pull rivets) because they are considered too weak. I don't know if the countersunk rivets used on the Sling are similarly affected. Vans never elaborated much other than saying the flush "...

Re: N135WT down
I flew that plane about a year ago on an intro flight. Sad to hear about the crash. At least they survived. Looking at the trajectory of the impact (near vertical), I'm surprised the structure held up that well. Maybe the wing took some of the impact before the fuselage impacted. Some early reviews ...

Re: Sling HW Radio Silence ?
I agree. The lack of videos on the HW kits under construction seems suspicious. It takes very little for the Sling folks to provide simple updates. Now that Vans announced financial issues with their company, the RV-15 is probably delayed a few years at best. The Sling HW is now top of my list, but ...

How are you able to pick up the empennage so soon? I presume you are getting the kit from the Torrance, CA facility.TWilli7523 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 8:59 am Thanks all for the advice. I am movning forward with the TSI. Picked up the Empennage Friday!

Re: 1st Production High Wing build has begun!
Maybe we'll get some new information out of Sun-n-Fun in Florida. Linda posted something about Sling doing something today at Sun-n-Fun. I'm guessing the new Rotax 916 will be standard. It would be awesome if Sling has already done flight testing with the Rotax 916 and was able to release performanc...

Re: 24 volt?
Good question. It's one of the questions I have as I contemplate a future build. There may be more 12 volt gadgets available for homebuilt (especially those who use the automotive components). The 12 volt batteries and chargers are likely cheaper. A couple of benefits of 24 volt systems include lowe...

Re: Tsi Insurance quotes
Thanks for the info. Crazy high numbers. Self-insured (or at least under-insured for hull) looks more and more appealing. I assume that was a ballpark or did you have a specific tail number to provide? I just requested ballpark information only. I had no Sling HW tail number to provide. I did ask i...

Re: Tsi Insurance quotes
Here is another point of reference. I just got a quote for the Sling High Wing (not the TSi). The annual premium is $9300. The quote is from Starr Companies through Gallagher Aviation Hull value is $190,000 Hull Coverage: Ground and Flight Hull Premium??? is $7600 I have 480 hours total time No inst...

Re: Tsi Insurance quotes
I wonder how much of that is due to the Tsi having 4 seats. It would be interesting to compare insurance quotes for a Sling 2. If number of seats is really a factor, perhaps you can leave the rear seats out for the first year while you fly off the 40 hours. Of course you would have to convince the i...
