Re: Future TSI builder
. . . . . TAF is expecting a decrease in cruise speeds for the high wing like Philip mentioned, so it is unlikely the high wing will be the more desirable option for people using the plane just for economical transport. If that equates to 3-5 knots less . . . does it really make that much differenc...

Re: Self Etching Primer
I used this one on my empennage, and this is the one that builders who use rattle can self etching primers typically use. That being said, its total junk in my opinion. It scratches off easily, which kind of defeats the point. I know a lot of people have their opinions on this issue, and really all ...

Re: Pitot Tubes - 1 vs 2
You have GPS for backup if your pitot tube is clogged or something. It's only going to give you ground speed but loss of your pitot tube/ias is not a life threatening situation. Here's the problem. You would have one pitot tube installed that must never be used except in the event of failure of the ...
Re: Elevator
Working on the elevator spar assembly and got to where you add the center channel. There are two long center plates that go in between the center channel and the spar (step 6 in the manual). I got one of the two in and figured I would stop and check with the forum before moving on. It was easy to g...

Re: Future TSI builder
I don't think you'll want to go with the high wing option if your mission is A to B airport to airport transportation. The only advantages I can see to the high wing would be egress, getting in and out of a high wing is usually a little easier to do. Also soft field landings could be better to keep ...

Re: Sling Tsi Quick Build vs Complete Kit?
I'd recommend going for the full kit not quickbuild ;) I'm building full time, and it took about 2-2.5 months to get the kit to the status of how a quickbuild ships. I'm now about 3.5 months into the build, and I'll say one thing for sure- the quickbuild kits ONLY get the easy stuff out of the way! ...

Re: Building in California - Tax
I was wondering if anyone else is building a Sling in California? Reason I ask specifically about California is that I am about to pull the trigger on kit however I found out that TAF charges sales tax, since they are basing their imports in California. I know that later on when the build is comple...
Re: Tools
I've seen nothing but positive things about the Milwaukee electric rivet gun I've got one issue with that gun... We have one, and it's a pain in the ass with the 3.2mm rivets in the kit. The problem is the tube through the middle of it is just big enough so that two mandrels can go next to each oth...
Re: Tools
Philip's list is pretty good- https://slingtsi.rueker.com/resources/tools/ He has some tools on there that I don't personally use, and I'm sure I have several tools he does not think are necessary. For example, I use air tools often, but he does not. I like the power of air tools, but the compressor...

Re: Tools to build
I second Philips response. That edge liner is great. Easy to install and very protective, smooth too so it makes pulling the wires through easy.
