Re: Forward Ballast

I've been brainstorming removable ballast ideas, too. Something forward of the firewall would be ideal due to the moment arm, but perhaps not as easy to implement. So here's an idea: Have some lead molded (or steel machined) to the exact dimensions of the floor in front of the front seat(s). Have a ...

Re: GNX375

As an airline pilot who's used to a lot of redundancy, it was hard for me to let go of feeling that I "need" VHF Nav. But, after reading and thinking a lot about it, I'm going with the GNX375. I won't rehash all the reasoning here, but for a good read on the subject, check out the article ...

Re: The Best Panel Switches?

I've been hoping to find something nicer than plain old toggles. I really like these: https://www.aerosportproducts.com/product/laser-etched-rocker-switches/ , which are popular in RV-10s. But I'm afraid they're too big to fit in a Sling panel under a 10.6" G3X Touch screen. I've been looking f...

Re: Kit Insurance

... Philip, who did you talk to over at Gallagher I'd like to give them a call to see if I can get a quote? I'll send you a PM with the contact details. Philip, I would love the contact details, too. The quote I got for builder’s insurance was $200 + .75% X value. Since it’s an annual premium and m...

Re: CO Detector

I was wondering about this myself. Since the heater does not use the conventional exhaust shroud, there's no risk of CO from the heater itself, right? Seems to make CO much less of an issue. I do like the Aithre EX 3.0 CO detector, as it’s reasonably priced and it integrates into the G3X, as does th...

Thinking about it

I am probably the person for whom owning an airplane makes the least sense in the world. I’m an A320 captain for a major airline, so I get plenty of “stick time” at work. I live 20 minutes from the largest hub airport in the world, from which my family and I can fly non-stop to hundreds of destinati...
