Landing Light Lens Installation
Landing Light Lens Installation
I have completed my wings and I am working on the landing light lens and I can not for the life of me figure out how to grab a hold of the lens in a way to line up the holes on both sides. I can get screws in to the bottom holes but then can’t get enough of a grip to pull the lens forward to get the top screws in. Am I missing something oblivious? I’m assuming I am because I would hate to ever have to change a light out if it’s this difficult. I could also just be crazy.

Yeah - it's a little tricky. I had to go check and see if I had good pictures of that part. I don't have any really because I was busy in 'get it done' mode vs. documenting.
What you can try so to work up a firm wire that will help pull the point in the lens and the back plate forward enough that you can catch the next two holes on the left and right hand side and then cleco them (the left and right holes) into place. That would give you enough firm structure to put the screw into.
Definitely definitely test the lights to make sure they work before putting the lens on! I had a bad LED from the factory and I think I found out after I put the lens on. The great part is if you have to do it more than twice you'll have more practice.
What I did was to get some nut plates to rivet to the back metal plate and then longer screws to catch the metal plate and pull that forward. Even in that situation it isn't easy to do.
Another tip is to use a heat gun to very gently warm the lens to help it confirm to the shape. If you need more info, let me know.
